The first settlers to what would become Denton were farmers who arrived from Kentucky and Tennessee in 1851. By 1870, there were over 100 residents living in what is now Denton Township. In 1881, Mayor Lewis Biddle donated land to be developed as a town square east of downtown which included today's restaurants such as Longhorn Steak House and Grille du Lac (now Jack In The Box). That same year saw the opening of the Texas State Railroad Museum which served as a training ground for railroad engineers before it becameDallas/Fort Worth's first light rail system in 1963. Over time, many other businesses moved into this growing downtown area including banks, insurance companies and medical offices; making it an attractive place to live and work during the early years of Dallas/Fort Worth's growth. During World War II, many jobs were created within defense production industries such as aircraft manufacture or munitions manufacturing throughout Tarrant County thanks to increased military activity nearby. As Arlington Cemetery grew closer during that time period Massive construction took place around both areas resulting in much noise and dust - not least because Arlington had no zoning laws whatsoever prevents buildings from rising more than 10 stories so any new development went straight up against existing homes & businesses until 1978 when ordinance changes opened up most neighborhoods allowing taller buildings with greater public access etc... This allowed developers like Ballentine Homes (later Toll Brothers) to build their giant subdivisions right next to existing schools while leaving behind massive amounts of dustbowl quality neighborhoods completely unmaintained until recent times! Denton has experienced rapid growth throughout its history due largely to its location within easy reach of major metropolitan areas – especially Dallas/Ft Worth – but also due to its commitment to sustainability through various initiatives such as energy efficiency programs and rain gardens

Denton, Texas is a small city located in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex of the United States. It is one of the oldest cities in Texas and has been around since 1836. The city was founded by Colonel James Denton on a piece of property he purchased from the Comanche Nation. In 1839, Denton was named after James Fenton, an Englishman who had settled in what is now Wichita, Kansas. The first settlers to live in Denton were people who had come overland from Missouri and Arkansas. They started to settle in town in 1841 and built homes on old surveyed land which they owned or leased. By 1862, when Fort Worth became a city, most of the original settlers had died out or moved away. The only residents left were those who lived in downtown Denton and some white farmers who grew cotton and cattle there. Denton became an important transportation center during the early days of Texas’ statehood because it was an endpoint for wagon road trips from northcentral Texas up to Houston and down to San Antonio. Wagon road travel stopped at Denton for supplies, money, and people before continuing on to other parts of Texas. During this time, many famous Texans passed through town including Sam Houston (the father of modern Texans), Stephen Austin (the president of Mexico), General John Kirby Smith (commander-in-chief Ulysses S Grant’s army during the American Civil War), General William Taney (presidential candidate John Tyler’s secretary general), Commodore Perry (the captaincy general Pacific Fleet commander during Spanish America–Mexico War), General Tomlinson (Ulysses S Grant’s chief military advisor during Reconstruction in America following Reconstruction)), as well as Buffalo Bill Cody (!), Santa Fe Trail pioneers David Hockaday and Jedediah Smith handcarts., etc.). Dentons growth continued into the 1960s with businesses such as Dell Computers opening up shop there starting back then as well as numerous later additions such as First Baptist Church which opened its doors that year along with JCPenney department store which would become one of Texass largest employers until it closed its doors in 2011
Denton is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 103,829 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Tarrant County after Fort Worth. Denton is located on the Texan side of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area and has a land area of . The first settlement in what is now Denton was made by Texans who journeyed westward from San Antonio during the 1836 Texas Revolution. They named their new community "New Braunfels" after Friedrich Wilhelm New Braunfels, an early German settler in what is today Austin, Texas. In 1839, German immigrant Peter Kritzinger established a cotton plantation near present-day Denton to help support his family. Kritzinger's plantations were among the first to be bought and patented by Sam Houston when he became president of Texas in 1845. In 1847, Nicholas Garvey arrived from Jamaica with his wife and two children to foundGarveytown on White Settlement Creek north of present-day Denton. Garveytown grew rapidly because of its natural resources: oil wells and grazing lands for cattle and sheep. By 1860, Garvey had developed a small town named Hope that straddled both sides of White Settlement Creek between Hope Valley and Garland Hills east of present-day downtown Denton. On October 14, 1861 – one week before Confederate General Robert Ewell's forces attacked Fort Sumter – Hope residents voted to secede from Texas over slavery issues following a meeting at which they elected James Brougham as their first mayor pro tempore (a position equivalent to today’s City Manager). The secessionist movement within Tarrant County accelerated when Confederate soldiers burned down Union stores throughout central TX on April 12, 1865 while occupyingDallas/Fort Worth; this event helped spur increased violence against Ulysses S Grant’s troops throughout much of East Texas during Reconstruction
