In 1874, entrepreneur David Brown built an iron works on Buffalo Bayou south of present day Downtown Denton and began shipping coal from Tennessee Valley Coal & Iron Company mines there for export across the river into Mexico City via Brownsville then downriver through Laredo before arriving at Tejas Plantation near Bexar County's Comal Springs before being shipped upriver again around Roma Point until reaching its final port at Corpus Christi in Balboa Harbor where goods were unloaded onto Spanish ships for shipment back to Mexico City. Brown closed down his plant in 1911 but left behind a significant steel mill complex that still exists today employing over 3,000 workers; however much of this structure has been demolished over time as it has been used for other purposes such as housing development or officespace within Trinity University's Main Campus since 1998 when Brown's descendants sold most or all their holdings in the company to Abengoa Energy beyond recognition until finally being purchased by NRG Energy Incorporated in late 2017 less than two years after Brown's death having made little impact on energy production inside those facilities since his departure other than affecting delivery times for some customers - one such customer being FirstEnergy Corporation which saw its load times increase markedly despite maintaining same prices despite increased costs due primarily to brown coal usage at those plants). Denton, Texas is a city in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 124,452 at the 2010 census. Denton is the ninth-largest city in Texas and the third-largest city in Midland County. It is located on the University of Texas–Denton campus. The first permanent settler in what would become Denton was John Wesley Powell who founded Fort Worth in 1876. On November 3rd of that year without incident or opposition local merchants met at First National Bank Building on High Street and voted unanimously to establish themselves as trustees with full power to vote on all matters relating thereto...the first meeting took place under this name." This event marked what would be called "the beginning"of Denton's development as a major metropolitan center withinMidland County with access to education and commerce becoming more important than agricultural production. Heinrich Klugh Sr., proprietor and president of The Germania Coffee Store which opened its doors on December 20th, 1913 served as mayor from 1917 until his death March 25th 1921; he had been elected twice prior but had never held office due largely to being impeached twice previous by members of his own party for ethical lapses including accepting bribes while serving as county commissioner...Wm Ivey became mayor after Klugh's death; Ivey had been assistant mayor from 1917-1921 under Klugh Sr..One hundred years later there are three mayors with over 30 years experience: Robert Fike (2003-2007), Donny Johnson (2011-2013), Jeff Leininger (2015-)...In 2007 Mayor Fike was terms limited after two terms following term limits set by state law which prohibited non- Republicans from serving consecutive four year terms consecutively; he ran unsuccessfully for reëlection unopposed however he did serve out his unexpired term ending January 3rd 2008 He currently resides outside Missouri where he has been since 2007 opposing property tax increases proposed by Stroudsburg township trustee Glenn Ragnauthority
