In 1897, Denison, Texas was founded by George W. Denison and his wife, Anna. The city is located in the Panhandle of Texas and is about 120 miles south of Amarillo. In 1907, the first scopes were built in Denison by Dr. Glyn Moody and Dr. Harry Hyman. Between 1912 and 1915, Drs. Moody and Hyman also built a combined telescope/photo machine shop in what is now called the Denison Camera Works Building on Pershing Street near University Avenue. This building still stands as a reminder of this important time in scopes history! In 1916, Drs. Moody and Hyman moved their business to what is now known as the Ithaca Optics Company Building on Elm Street adjacent to UTdenison's Veterinary School at that time it was one of the largest optics businesses in America!
