Denison has been through many changes since its earliest days as a small town: it has seen heavy industry leave for new markets or relocated to other parts of the country; it has undergone several name changes (including "Midland," "Hutchinson" and "Travis"); but it always retains its unique character as a community where people are proud to call themselves Denisians. In recent years, development within town limits has begun to take center stage - most notably in the form of apartment buildings that line Main Street near downtown; growth along Interstate 45 outside town boundaries; and an expanding convention center just west of downtown which will soon serve as home to both local businesses and DENISION CONVENTION CENTER & FILM FESTIVAL!

Denison, Texas is a city in Gregg County, Texas, United States. The population was 10,821 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Gregg County. The Denison area began as an Indian hunting and Fishing campsite in 1871. A post office called Denison was established in 1875, and remained in operation until 1903. The town site was surveyed by Wm. Hays on March 9, 1876 and it became a part of Dallas on December 12 of that year. By 1880, there were sixty-six residents living in the town site. The first store in Denison opened its doors on November 6th of that year along with a schoolhouse which served as the administrative center for all the small villages around Denison until 1923 when a new high school was built and renamed after Forrest Whitehead who had been instrumental in helping to develop Denison into what it is today including many popular restaurants like Pecan Pie Place and Cowboy Joe's BBQ notoriety for being one of the last places you would go if you wanted to eatTexan style barbecue without breaking the bank or actually burning any kind of meat). In 1925 Denion had over one hundred residents; eleven businesses operated; nine churches fourteen schools; playgrounds ten fifty children played organized sports daily during summer months while others hunted deer tracks throughout corn country checkers (a game which still takes place occasionally), hiked creek bottoms with nets “or took walks through forested areas” numerous times each day spending Sundays fasting at Deer stands some 5 hours before services commenced at 3pm followed by chapel services (Anglicans) before dinner where they either enjoyed home made pies or cabbage rolls smothered with butter then bedtime stories etc…………………..all this activity occurred within blocks or two miles radius of what we now consider our downtown core………………………………………………………………………..In 1924 I believe this area included present day downtown “Canyon Park” side streets bounded by Third Street South/East Side Road North/West Side Road east/west alleyways never finished because Dallas annexed Canyon Park annexation did not occur until 1949…………….In 1950 denison had only 8 inhabitants……………From 1910-1920 DENISON CONSISTED OF ONLY OVER NINE INHABITANTS………………..DENISON BEGAN TO REALLY Grow And Expand WhenDallas Annexed Canyon Park
The town of Denison, Texas was founded in 1836 by Captain John Denton. The town became a cattle and mineral center after the discovery of oil in nearby Titusville.
