By 1875, when post office construction began in Hudspeth County, all but a tiny portion of present-day Del Rio had been developed as an agricultural town with cattle ranches and small businesses serving ranch hands In 1907 Houston annexed much of Hudspeth Counties eastward to form new Harris County; however, some residents wanted to keep their community separate fromHouston so they formed a group called the "Hudson's Bayonne Association" to promote annexation onto their own land which they did in 1912 In 1916 Enterprise Oil Company acquired 6 acres (2 km²) east of downtown for development into an oil refinery; this refinery was not completed until 1980 In 1925 Houston annexes still further east into Collin County including what are now portions of Hitchcock and Midway neighborhoods In 1950s most industry moved out or closed down due to low prices for oil relative to other countries during Cold War era

In 1835, TX Code Section 36-2-10 provided that all towns or cities with a population over 10,000 were given their own ZIP code--an early form of municipal government which continues to be used today. At that time there were only six municipalities in Hidalgo County: Austin,abilene, Arlington Heights/Century Village/Haleyville, Brownsville/Harlingen/San Antonio International Airport Annex/, Del Rio/Pecos Valley and Waco/. In 1907 Del Rio hosted the world's first rodeo event at Paseo del Buenavista Park when $5 million in prize money was offered for the event byBuffalo Bill Cody and Wild Bill Hickok. During World War II many American factories closed down due to wartime shortages; however many people who had worked at these factories continued to live in Del Rio until they could get back into work again. One such person was Jack Welch who startedroning company American Motorsports Company out of his home on Main Street before moving it across town to steal Chrysler's thunder years later during Chrysler's bankruptcy process! In recent years downtown redevelopment has been taking place resulting in more businesses sprouting up along Hudson Avenue including fashionable restaurants like Benares B&B & Tea Room and Unser Menühaus which opened an adjacent tea shop called The Gilded Cage inside an old courthouse building vacated by Hidalgo County government services once it ceased operation in 2001!
Del Rio was founded in 1836 byCaptain James F. Watson and his wife, Calista B. Willingham. It became a small town after becoming the terminus of the Santa Fe Trail. The townspeople built homes from logs gathered from the nearby river bottom. In 1849, a post office was established in Del Rio and it continued to serve as an important center for trade until the early 20th century when railroads took over most of what is now Texas commerce.
