In recent years there has been some growth back into economy with new businesses opening up such as car dealerships and homebuilders but overall there remain many deprecated businesses that have failed to take off like former golf course owner's who are now selling their land for development instead of keeping it faith-based property preserving their historical significance
Deer Park was founded in 1879 by James H. Doogan and his wife, Sarah. The town was named after a deer that grazed on the property. Doogan had been driving to Fort Worth to buy goods when he saw a deer grazing in what is now Deer Park. He decided to settle there, and the first settlers arrived in 1879. The town grew quickly, and by 1904 it had a population of about 250 people. In 1907, the Railroad Commission authorized the construction of the Dallas-Fort Worth Railway through Deer Park, which created more jobs for residents. The town continued to grow during World War I, and by 1919 it had reached its current size of about 2,500 people. During World War II, Deer Park served as an airfield for the United States Air Force's 7th Bombardment Wing; the wing operated from nearby Love Field until its closure in 1991.
