He then discharged his pepper spray into the group, causing several people to fall to the ground. Two of the men then jumped on McNaught and beat him until he was unconscious. One man then took a knife and cut off McNaught's mustache before fleeing the scene.

The first store in Deer Park was opened by Hakeem Karr on Main Street in 1881. Karr was a cotton planter who also operated a farm east of the town. In 1887, Barnes bought land northeast of town from Wm Crain for $1,000 cash and developed it into what is now known as Deer Park Township. He named his new township after himself, which soon became one of the most popular names for townships throughout Texas because it had multiple applications and no overnight shipments required to get registered with the secretary of state! In 1907, Harry Burt opened his grocery store at 6th & Elm Streets in what is now known as Burt's Department Store. That same year saw construction begin on what would become Deer Park High School; it would be completed ten years later and serve as the primary educational institution for residents of Deer Park until annexation by Arlington in 1963. In 1912, George A Marshall donated land to create Arlington Stadium which would host football games between Dallas/Fort Worth Cowboys (later called Baylor Bears) and Texas Rangers (later renamed NFL Texans). During World War II, much of Deer Park was used as an estimated 120 air-raid shelter sites across Dallas County! During its heyday during the 1920s through 1930s, deer park had a population of over 10,000 people! Today there are only about 1,500 permanent residents living within minutes’ walking distance of both downtown deer park and Arlington Mills! There have been several attempts over time to bring back some form of deer hunting or agricultural programming which have all come up short due to lack support from citizens or bureaucrats alike!

Hutton bought land in Deer Park from David Denton and began to build a house on what is now US 183. In 1902, Hutton sold his share of the property to Captured Bird & Sons Ranch Co., which operated it until 1946 when it became known as Dripping Springs Rancho de las Animas de los Caballeros Estancia No 4 (DRAE). In 1901, John Mumm built a one-story log cabin on what is now Brazos Street near the present day intersection of US 183 and Brazos Street. This was probably the first building in Deer Park. In 1911, Joeseph Cockerill started operating an agricultural store at 511 Seches Road which later became known as The Grit Store & Grain elevator which stood until 1962 when it was destroyed by fire caused by an overload of flour sacks stored there during a storm. In 1912, Drayton Wescott established himself as a doctor in nearby San Marcos with practice at 512 Espejo Drive and soon moved to 520 Seches Road where he had several clinics for patients with mental health issues before retiring in 1956 after over forty years of practice. After World War II ended and America entered into economic recession due to Hiroshima bombings; deer park's cattle ranchers went out of business while many people left for cities looking for new opportunities; however some families did stay because they were able to raise their families here including those that owned The Grit Store & Grain elevator mentioned earlier."Deer Park: A History""Deer Park: A History - Historical Facts about Deer Park TX."
