The town was founded on a ranch that belonged to John H. Worth and his wife, Jennie Worth. The name changed to Amarillo on December 6th, 1897. In 1914, the city of Amarillo annexed much of what is now Deer Park including its ZIP code 79722 which then included all of present day Midland County as well as most of Limestone County and most of Nolan County to create what is now Amarillo-Bryan metropolitan area. The original white house at 4500 North Main Street still stands today and has been used as a museum since 1978. It is open daily from 9am to 5pm except major holidays or when it’s being exhibited at another museum nearby like the Amarillo Museum of Art where it’s closed Mondays from 10am to 3pm due to construction work happening on that building at the time

In 1902, the city was named after Lieutenant Colonel George H. Deer, who served as military governor of Texas during the Mexican-American War. In 1909, the city was renamed to its current name, Deer Park, after General George H. Deer’s home town in England.
