On July 1, 1881, Deer Park was founded by two men who were looking for a place to hunt. George H. White and James Starling bought 640 acres of land west of the city in what is now Deer Park Township. The men started building cabins on the property and began hunting deer and other game. In 1886, they donated all of their hunting property to the township in order to create a park that would be open to everyone. The first guns used in Deer Park were muskets made by Smith & Wesson. The gun sights used today were developed in 1923 by Willy Fermi and are calledthe Fermi Gun Sight system. Deer Park is a small town in the United States located in Hidalgo County, Texas. The population was 2,898 at the 2000 census. It is part of the San Antonio–Bryan metropolitan area. The primary industry in Deer Park is agriculture. The name "Deer Park" first appeared on maps in 1871 when it was given to a sawmill by Dr. John Denton and James Ewing. In 1898, the town site was purchased from Mr. Jordon by Wm Averill who built a mill and gristmill on what became known as Main Street. As the town grew, so did its population with many families coming from rural areas to join the growing community of Deer Park and neighboring towns such as White Sands and Pecos Valley. The first school opened in 1907 when Mrs. Anna Laughlin donated land for a schoolhouse on Elm Street near present day I-10 and US 281 (the original route of I-10). In 1916, school board member Fenton donated $2,000 to build an addition to the existing brick building which would become known as the “Old School House” (later renamed “Deer Park High School”). The old high school served students until it closed in 1971 when new Deere Park High School was completed across I-10 from Main Street (now main street) between Flores Avenue and Richards Avenue. At that time, Deer Park had 8th through 12th grades with both junior high schools serving portions of that grade range up until 1987 when all grades were consolidated into one large school complex under the name Deer Park Jr./Sr., now called “DeerPark Senior High School” According to information provided by Msgr Forrest Burtz during his recent visit to our wonderful little community he has learned that there are plans underway for us to have our own jail if we feel like we need one since our current jail is not up to snuff! We can only hope that this happens because otherwise we will continue having people come here just for crime without any impact on their lives or properties! Deer Park is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,474 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Williamson County and is bordered by the city of Austin to the north and east, Tomball to the south, La Grange to the west and Archer City to the northwest. The first settlers in this area were Methodist missionaries who began arriving in 1836. In 1840, Deer Park was named for John A. Deer, a U.S. Congressman from Kentucky who served in that year's Mexican-American War as captain of Company K of the Fifth Regiment Texas Volunteer Infantry (). The name change may have been due to confusion with nearby San Antonio which had been renamed Waterloo after General Sir John Moore's victory over Mexico at that battle (the Spanish word "Waco" means "place where water flows"). In 1851, George Wirth purchased land for what would become Deer Park from Major Elisha Goodloe of El Paso and laid out roads and townsite on it. This community became known as Wirthville after George Wirth himself. The first post office was established here on December 10th, 1851; it was called Union Station (). In 1865, Brushy Creek Road was rerouted through this community so that mail could be delivered more conveniently to other settlements in Williamson County (at present Archer City). In 1870*, when Gillespie County was created from portions of Travis and Williamson Counties plus Hockley Valley (), Deer Park became part of Gillespie County but retained its own name until 1912 when it changed again to Williamson County () because most residents there lived within its borders only – not within Travis or Williamson counties themselves (). The first church here (built in 1865) still stands today - First Baptist Church (). After World War I saw an increase in trade among these new county residents – including farmers – deer park developed into one of agriculture's major center points during this time period with many barnyards becoming well-known around here for their production techniques such as dry matter drying (), quick-drying (); deep-freeze storage (); windrow cultivation (); early winnowing (); highbush blueberry growing ()); and corn cribding (). All told, some 5500 acres were devoted entirely or nearly exclusively to cattle herdings during these years (), making Deer Park one of Texarkana’s most important livestock markets . Today only a few scattered farms remain which continue operations primarily with hogs rather than cows/pigs., although droves are still common during fallow periods ()
Deer Park was established in 1871 as a rancho by brothers Lorenzo and Francisco de la Garza. It was named after the deer that were common on the property at the time. The rancho eventually became part of the Travis County Agricultural Company, which sold it to J.D. McKnight in 1898. In 1913, McKnight donated land to city planners for use as a park and opened it to the public.
