Deer Park is a small town in Potter County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,724 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. Deer Park was founded in 1878 by prospectors and settlers who were looking for a place to winter their herds of buffalo. The first post office was established in 1879, and the first store opened in 1880. In 1903, the name of the community was changed to Deer Park after nearby Deer Creek Ranch became part of Texas A&M University. The town grew rapidly during World War II as soldiers brought home supplies and made new friends in the area. After the war ended, deer hunting became an important economic activity in the community. Today, Deer Park has a wide variety of retail businesses including restaurants and stores, as well as a couple of schools (one public and one private). The downtown core is home to several large buildings that date back to early settler days: The Old Fort Store (1878), deerskinning camp (1880), corral (1881), blacksmith shop (1882), grocery store (1902) and post office building (1903). One notable structure from this time period is First Baptist Church which stands today on Main Street across from what used to bethe schoolhouse/library complex. Many other buildings have been replaced or upgraded over time but many original features remain such as Adobe Walls built by local ranchers around 1906 for insulation against harsh weather conditions; jail cells dating from shortly after World War I; two-story frame garage constructed on land now occupied by First Baptist Church; and much more!

Deer Park is a small, unincorporated community located in Wise County, Texas, United States. The population was 2 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Deer Park occurred in 1876 when James A. Kline and his family arrived from Illinois. They farmed land on what is now North Loop Road and East Loop Road. By 1881, they had built a cabin on the present site of Deer Park Elementary School. In that year, Kline also erected a log cabin on what is now Main Street. Over time, other settlers followed Kline's lead and began to settle in Deer Park. By 1900, there were nine families living in Deer Park: Kline, Storey, Hanks (later Smith), White (later Slaughter), Gentry (later Gray), Whetstone, Ritchie (later Robb) and Rankin (later Rankin). In 1907-08, local farmers formed the "Deer Park Agricultural Society" to promote agriculture within their community. The society organized annual deer drives to collect meat for meals served at their respective homes; these drives are still held today.* In 1916-17*, the "Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department" was organized; it has remained active ever since.* In 1935-36*, Doege Mosely settled in Deer Park after moving from Missouri.* He operated a grocery store until his death in 1987.* Joe Hardesty opened his first restaurant/grocery store at 12th and Lamar Streets* sixteen years later.* And finally Jane Karns opened her own convenience store/diner at 15th Street & Lamar Boulevard* several years later(*). All of these businesses remain open today** (*). *The "DeerPark Agricultural Society" merged with the "Texas Rural Life Association" to form the larger "Texas Farm Bureau Federation" on February 9th 1946 **On July 1st 1984 both entities were combined into one entity known as the Texas Grocery Manufacturers Association
