The Record Armory was a Printz-owned and operated facility. It served as the main armory for several newspapers in Dallas before it was sold to James W. Davis Sr., who renamed it the Smithers Armory and continued to operate it until he died in 1941. In 1951, SMITH & WESSON bought the Davis Arms Company from James W. Davis Sr. In 1952, SMITH & WESSON merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to form Winchester Repeating Arms Company Incorporated (WRA). In 1957, WRAL television station began airing a weekly show called "Dallas Register" which featured local news items from across the city. This led to WMAR-TV acquiring some ofWRAL's programming and continuing to air "Dallas Register" throughout its existence as an independent station. In 1959, WRAL agreed to sell its affiliation with TV Land to Time Warner Cable subsidiary TWC Broadcasting Corporation for $2 million dollars. As part of this deal, Time Warner Cable became responsible for all broadcasting within TWC territory including cable carriage of WBFF-TV (channel 7) which at that time also aired locally owned andoperated stations affiliated with CBS Radio Network (including KFWB-FM (93°9FM), then known as KLIF/NBC affiliate). As a result of this arrangement, both WRAL and KFWB were upgraded from secondary status on TWC's systems into fulltime Fox Affiliate status effective July 1st 1960 under new ownership by Time Warner Cable subsidiary Bright House Networks Incorporated (a division of Comcast Corporation). At that time both stations relocated their operations from downtown Dallas towards their current studios located in Midtown Tower near IMAX Theatres across Commerce Street from Sam Rayburn Auditorium on North Main Street in downtown Dallas
