By 1850, there were over 100 businesses operating in downtownDallas including bootmakers, tailors and printers; all using different methods to obtain goods from suppliers around the world during that time period such as walking miles through local forests or bargaining with Native Americans for their goods (Moses & Sons Rifle works). By 1860 about 60% of the workforce in downtownDallas worked in manufacturing which included things like printing presses and barrels

Dallas, Texas is a city located in the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The population of the city was 557,815 as of the 2010 census. The name "Dallas" came from two different places: Dallas (a small village near present-day Arlington) and DeSoto County, which was then part of Mexico. On November 15, 1835, General Zachary Taylor's forces burned down the old Mexican town of DeSoto after capturing it during their skirmish at San Jacinto Heights. As a result, Americans began to use "Dallas" to refer to all of Texas regardless of where its residents lived. The first courthouse in Dallas was built in 1836 on what is now Interstate 20. The original courthouse building still stands and is used as a museum today. In 1875, the Legislature changed the name of DeSoto County to Dallas County following annexation by Dallas. The county seat was moved from Arlington to downtown Dallas in 1893 and remained there until 1998 when it moved back to Arlington. During World War II, Dallas was one of many American cities that played an important role in helping shortagesof munitions and other war supplies reach Allied troops fighting abroad. In 1944, Mayor Hargrave offered his home for use as a concentration camp for Japanese Americans living in North Texas because he felt they should not be living anywhere near military installations or explosives plants housing Nazi Germany and Japan
The city of Dallas was founded on April 6, 1875, by a group of men led by entrepreneur George W. Richardson. The city grew rapidly and soon became the largest in Texas. In 1907, Dallas became a state capital and in 1912 it annexed Arlington County. The city experienced rapid growth during World War II with the construction of airfields and military facilities such as Fair Park and Love Field. However, following the war,Dallas declined in popularity due to its high crime rates and limited economic opportunities. The population peaked at 1 million in 1980 but has since decline significantly.
