The town was founded by Haskell Crowell in 1869 as a Mormon settlement on the old Wichita road between Fort Worth and Waco. In 1916, Crowley became an independent municipality under the name of Haskell Junction. The post office closed in 1984. The town was renamed Crowley after Jerald C. Crowell, its first mayor. Crowley's rich history includes two episodes from American history: The Battle of Saratoga and The Alamo campaign. The first episode took place on July 2, 1814 when General James Hogg's army attacked Mexican general Manuel Armijo at the Battle of Palo Alto Ridge near present-day San Antonio, Texas (now part of San Antonio). Hogg's force numbered more than 30 thousand men but Armijo emerged victorious with only 8 dead including himself while losing 300 men and 3 artillery pieces; this victory made Hogg a hero throughout Texan society for many years after his defeat at Saratoga five years later (see battle of Palo Alto). In 1861 US forces led by Colonel John Brown successfully defended Harpers Ferry against ConfederateGeneral Robert E Lee’s Confederate brigade under Majestic Andrew Johnson during what became known as the Arkansas Campaign; this event helped create national prominence for US Army Lieutenant General Ulysses S Grant who would eventually become President Ulysses S Grant’s Secretaryof War upon Grant’s election in 1868 (see Battle of Harpers Ferry). Today there are few remaining buildings from these events but some excellent displays about them are available at nearby Round Rock National Monument which was created specifically for research into American Civil War History & Heritage or at nearby Fort Worth State Historical Park which contains both significant examples CG&AOrdnanceusemilitarized Area with exhibits on various aspectsof military life during/after World War I as well as associated support facilities used by local government agencies

Crowley, Texas is a small town located in Medina County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,951 at the 2010 census. Crowley was founded in 1867 by John Crowley and his wife Sarah. The early residents of Crowley were farmers who raised livestock and grew crops. In 1901, the Crowleys donated land to build a high school. In 1925, the town name was changed to honor Harry Houdini and his showmanship skills. Today, Crowley is known for its traditional cotton farming economy and its small-town feel. The town has a main street with three blocks of businesses Alongside Center Street are several churches including First Baptist Church which dates back to 1889 and Clarendon Methodist Church which opened in 1907. The community also features two banks (First National Bank & Trust Company & PeoplesBank) as well as a variety of stores including an ice cream parlor, hardware store and grocery store as well as libraries which include Memorial Library dating back to 1929 and the Harry Houdini Research Library which opened in 1984.
