Crowley, Texas is a small town located in Comal County, Texas. The population was 3,564 at the 2010 census. Crowley is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Crowley has a post office with ZIP code 75205. The first settlers in Crowley were James and Sally McKay who arrived in 1847 from Kansas City, Missouri. They named their place after one of their friends, Isaac Crowell, who had settled near Wichita in that year. The McKay family left Crowley about 1850 and moved to Pecos County, New Mexico. In 1851 they returned to Comal County and built a cabin on the west side of Clear Fork Creek. They also raised chickens and hogs there until 1865 when they sold their land to John Aikens for $1 per acre ($40 per square mile). From 1865 until his death in 1904 John Aikens was owner and operator of the Southeastern Railroad which ran through Crowley from Fort Worth south to San Antonio. In 1902 Jerald Wray bought an interest in the Southeastern Railroad from Aiken's widow Emma Crouse Browning for $30 per share (equivalent to $). He became its general manager and operated it until his death in 1957. Wray was also president of the First National Bank of Crowley from 1916 to 1917 and vice president from 1921 to 1923; he served as mayor of Crowley from 1919-1920 and 1924-1927; he was comptroller for Comal County from 1935-1937; he was alderman for District 4 (East Dallas) from 1941-1945; he represented District 5 (West Dallas) on theDallas City Council from 1951-1957; he represented District 6 (South Dallas) on theDallas City Council from 1959-1963; he died on December 2, 1957 at age 83 years old. On November 3, 1960 inauguration day George Hennepin became Mayor of Dallas following Wray's death having been elected defeating incumbent Sam Rayburn by 8 votes out of 10 cast due to Wray's tiebreaker vote against Hennepin within Districts 1 & 5 (east & westDallas).
