The first post office opened in 1880, serving as the main center for village life until 1893 when the new courthouse was built downtown which continues to serve as its primary function today; moreover, Crowley also had its own schoolteacher’s union from 1881 until 1915 when central government education came into being through Texas State Teachers College (TSCTC). In 1902, Crowley incorporated as a city under the name Pembroke with an estimated population of 350 people; however due to rapid growth over time Pembroke shrunk back down to its current size by 1940 with only 120 residents living in what is now known as Downtown Pembroke while another hundred lived off-site in rural areas around town including present day Pryor Hills and parts of Baldy Hill near US 287 interchange northeast of town limits During World War II many locals enlisted service either within or outside our country After WW II there were significant changes taking place within our community including: 1) The opening up of oilfields across state lines 2) Migration from rural areas 3) Increase in industry 4) Decrease in density
