The store was first established in 1951 by Don and Mary Weatherspoon. Crowley was founded in 1873 by John Wesley Crowley and his wife Emma. The first post office in Crowley was established in 1875. The town has been served by the same school district since 1886. In 1907, Crowley consolidated with nearby towns of Pecos and Lubbock to form the new city of Crowley–Lubbock. The merger failed because both towns had different elected officials and significant differences in population size. In 2002, Crowley was named one of "10 Most Fascinating Places to Live" by Forbes magazine. John Wesley Crowley (1837-1915)was an American Methodist preacher who founded what is now known as Crowley County on a tract of land east of Austin that he acquired from General Sam Houston in 1873. John Wesley's brother James Wescott organized the first Methodist congregation there in 1876; James Wescott also became an early political figure in local affairs and helped found Austin's first newspaper, The Daily Texan (founded 1888). Crowley, Texas is located in the U.S. state of Texas and has a population of over 8,000 as of 2019. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area and is situated on the eastern edge of the Brazos Valley. The town was named after Samuel Crowley, an American Revolutionary War general and a delegate to Philadelphia who served in 1778-79 as one of two delegates from Texas to sign the Declaration of Independence. Crowley's father, John Crowley, also played an important role in early settler development in this area and founded what is now known as Crowley Elementary School in 1872. The townsite that would later become Crowley was originally land belonging to George Baylor, who built a small cabin there around 1836. In 1854, Baylor sold his land to James Hays for $2,500 dollars which formed the nucleus for what would become present-day Crowley. By 1860, however, most residents had moved away from this initial growth because it was difficult to get water or fertile farmland for crops nearby. In 1865 local resident Isaac Hardin donated about 40 acres (16 hectares) north of present day Crowley to be used as a military reservation during the Civil War. This gave rise to some confusion among locals about whether or not they actually lived within their town limits at that time - some claimed they did while others said they only stayed within easy walking distance due to concerns about Confederate infiltration into their midst. After years of wrangling between interested parties over ownership and use of these lands (including several civil wars), things finally came together enough for hardwood lumber companies such as Jepsen & Sons (later Jepsen Industries) and Gulf Navigation Company Ltd., both chartered by The Lone Star State government under a few conditions related to cattle drives across what are now western Oklahoma and eastern Texas during the late 1800s (specifically those portions lying eastward along I-10). These companies were given exclusive rights by order from then-Governor Sam Houston based on market demand at that time; thus began ranching operations adjacent thereto which continues today with various farmers leasing access directly from higher ground elsewhere within our borders - making it one significant source for crossroads culture throughout much of WestTexas today!
