Crowley, Texas is a town located in Parker County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Amarillo–Fayetteville metropolitan area. Crowley is named after Orson Scott Card who was born in nearby Haskell Institute on October 15, 1887. The first white person to live in what would become Crowley was James Ivey who arrived in 1879. He built a cabin on the east side of town and named it "Crowley". A post office called Crowley was established in 1888, and remained in operation until 1903. In 1902, residents of Crowley formed the first school board in what would become Parker County. The original school building still stands today and serves as the community's only source of educational instruction for children ages K-12th grade. From 1927 to 1951, Crowley served as home to Amarillo Air Force Base which employed over 100 people throughout its duration including many airmen who later founded their own businesses around town such as Amoco Oil Company and First National Bank of Amarillo

The town of Crowley grew rapidly due to its location on an important crossroad connecting two cattle trails that passed through central Texas. The initial development was agricultural but soon commercial tenants came up with businesses such as a tailor, carpenter, barber shop, bakery and photographer/photographer's studio among others. By 1910 Crowley had also become home to one of the country's first radio stations – KRXI (AM) – which helped spawn local industry that continues today including manufactures of items like computers, televisions and truck parts. In 1925 John Sowell bought shares in KRXI from its original owner Harry Kappelmeyer and began operating it as a private station under the name "John Sowell Radio Company". With increased popularity came increased competition for programming space so Sowell turned KRXI into what is now known as KFMB-TV (NBC), one of America's original popular television networks along with ABC (the early days weredominated by CBS). In 1960s-1970s confusion set in when KLAS-TV (ABC) became KNXT after New Mexicana merged with KFMB while CW expanded into adjacent markets; although this pattern has since reversed withCW affiliations going away while KNXT reemerging as an affiliate of UPN (now Fox). KLAS eventually became Univision when Texaco merged with Time Warner Bros., resulting in more network affiliation changes throughout their ownership periods culminating at CNN becoming slotless once again when TWA sold Turner Broadcasting System back to Time Warner Bros.—a move that effectively killed off regionalism within American TV landscape forevermore! Ultimately however many people simply stopped calling TXUSA their home because there are too many other participating networks now!
