Crowley and named for him and his son-in-law, James W. Crowley (1851-1925). The first post office was established in Crowley on November 12, 1881. The town grew rapidly after it wasselected as the site of the Trinity Railroad's headquarter in 1885. In 1886, the townsite became part of Hudspeth County when it was created from parts of Montgomery and Wise counties. In 1925, A.T.'s grandson John Fenton Crowley sold most of his interest in the railroad to J C Penney parent company for $1 million dollars ($102 million today). This event helped to create what is now known as "Crowley's Millionaire Era." After World War II ended with victory for the United States over Japan, Crowley experienced rapid growth due to new technology being developed there such as oil production and ranching opportunities that had been unavailable before then. However, by 1978 local businesses were reporting declines in business because of rising costs associated with energy prices and changes occurring throughout metropolitan Houston area economy which made it difficult to find workers who could commute into downtownHouston to do their jobs properly or take advantage of new services available there like Barnes & Noble or Sam’s Club which had opened up next door Booz Allen Hamilton Building at 21st Street Southwest during this time period where many professionals took their families for holidays each year while living close enought o enjoy all that Houston had to offer without having an additional job outside their home city limits
