Ammunition has a long and varied history, dating back to the 6th century BC. The origin of ammunition is unknown, but it likely stemmed from some form of weapon or projectile. At one point, lead bullets were created to fire projectiles that could penetrate armor. In the 18th century, powder was introduced into ammunition for cannons and artillery. This led to an increase in damage potential as well as the development of more powerful firearms. Ammunition also became more important in warfare as bigger rounds allowed for greater range and accuracy. Today, ammunition remains an important part of military life, with different types being used for various purposes around the world.

The first ammunition was fired from cannons in the early 15th century. Cannonballs were made of lead, iron, and other materials. The earliest cannon balls were about 1 inch in diameter and about 4 inches long.
