In 1892 when Corsicana officially became an independent city it had an estimated population of 30 people. By 1900 it had increased to 350 people but by 1910 it had decreased again to 220 people due largely to World War I which destroyed much property in nearby Galveston County including most Dammantown plantations which made up parts of Corsicana’s slave trade industry until they were finally freed during Reconstruction Era changes that pardoned all former slaves convicted or brought before U.S District Court without bond who were no longer living under slavery–a process known as “Pardoning Out Slavery” or POS because President James Kenedy ordered them not be counted against future totals when computing voting strength for local government elections).
