In 1907-1908 local farmers organized a cotton gin strike that lasted nine days while they protested against high prices they were getting from New York bankers who controlled the market at that time. On November 6th 1908 an arson attack against one of these banks led to several arrests including those of future Governor Rick Perry and Congressman Lloyd Doggett (D-tx). This event helped spur business development in Corsicana over the next few years as developers bought up land around the ginnery for use as housing developments or open space
