Corsicana, Texas is a town in central Texas and the seat of Corsicana County. The population was 21,594 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Bastrop County after Bastrop. The history of Corsicana began with the arrival of Europeans in what is now Corsicana County on May 14, 1836, when an American party led by Captain John C. Frémont crossed the Brazos River from San Antonio to Nacogdoches. On July 6, 1836, William Tatum established a trading post at what is now Corsicana for wagon trains bound for California. A year later, Tatum founded a new settlement called Victoria on an island in the Brazos River about 3 miles (4 km) northwest of present-day Corsicana. In 1840, Mexican General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna ordered all English-speaking residents of Mexico to leave their homes or be killed. Most opted to leave rather than face death at Santa Anna's hands; however, some 1,200 Spanish speakers chose to stay and fight for Mexico against Anglo forces under Ulysses S. Grant during the Mexican–American War (1846–1848). In 1847 JB Caldwell opened a store in Corsicana and became one of the first self-employed merchants in Texas when he opened his store near present day Main Street and US 281/281A south of Interstate 10. After years of growth throughout Bastrop County as well as commerce within its own limits within downtown Corsicana before Caldwells Store closed down around 1910 due to Prohibition efforts by then Sheriff Harry Huggins it has been difficult to determine exactly when this portion of town lost its commercial character until recent research which found that most likely between 1920 and 1930 much if not all business activity stopped completely or shifted away from downtown because prohibition made economic life very difficult for many small businesses across rural areas across America given that production had always been more important than marketing activities outside urban areas since alcohol was currently legal in most places other than Virginia where it once was illegal without a pardon from President James K Polk who felt that allowing drunken public officials free access to liquor would lead directly to lawlessness and chaos 1 million people lived along I-10 between Amarillo and Dallas during prohibition so there must have been quite a few businesses close down along with residences

Corsicana, Texas was born in 1853 on the Llano River. The town’s first permanent resident was José “Paco” Correa, who arrived in 1851 and claimed land on the present-day east side of the river. Antonio Alvarado settlement began to form in 1854 when Mexican Americans from San Antonio founded a small community near what is now Midland Avenue and I-10. In 1861, following Confederate secession from the United States, Corsicana became an all-male military academy called Fort Bliss. In 1865, it became known as Corpus Christi after then Secretary of War Edwin Stanton transferred some residents of San Antonio to become citizens there. By 1870, Corsicana had reached its current size with 1,200 residents and 25 stores. The town prospered until 1900 when a devastating fire destroyed most of the buildings along Elm Street. However, Corsicana bounced back quickly and by 1910 had reached its current size with over 5500 residents and 100 businesses. A major event that took place in this time was World War I which led to increased trade between Corsicana and Mexico City; this helped contribute to a strong economy during the war years. This period also saw significant growth for education within corsicanatx; many young men from here went on to become successful lawyers or businesspeople. In 1954, corsicanatx became an official UTA educational campus under President John F Kennedy’s administration Initiative No 1035Powell School District Number 814Doris Harding Elementary School opened at Euclid Avenue South (now US 281). However, despite these successes – both past and future – little progress has been made towards restoring historical downtown areas such as Market Square or Center Street; instead much development has taken place in adjacent neighborhoods such as East Side Plaza and East Side Towne Center while Presidio Heights remains undeveloped despite being one of corsicanatx’s most prominent landmarks
