The first European to settle in what is now Corsicana was Captain Francisco Pico in 1824. In 1836, General Sam Houston founded the town of Huntsville on the banks of White Oak Bayou as part of his offensive against Mexican forces under General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. Huntsville became a major crossroad for travelers on the Santa Fe Trail and later became a center for cotton cultivation and cattle ranching. In 1881, Austin Post bought 2,500 acres (1 km²) east of Corsicana from John Epps Jr., making it Post's own Rancho San Marcos y las Americas which he ruled over until his death in 1903; he had also acquired 1 million acres (4 km²) west of Corsicana including present-day downtown Corsicana and parts of today's Rusk Street and Old Spanish Road neighborhoods In 1907, post office construction began at Sixth Street and Elm Avenue NE cornering Main Street near what would become Pioneer Cemetery; it occupied one block between Sixth and Elm Streets NE until 1915 when two blocks north were developed into Pruitt Park with a large gymnasium/synagogues/community hall/temporary market annexe attached on top by means of an underground tunnel It should be noted that this building still stands as Pruitt Park Elementary School - originally built as First National Bank Building #2 - although its facade has been replaced by new brick buildings since 1945 The "Pruitt Park" name may have originated with former mayor Charles Hance who purchased some adjacent land including Pruitt Lake across from East Dallas High School site where he planned to build a community park like Cleveland Park along Dutchtown Creek but never did so due to opposition from then-Dallas Mayor James Kossuth who thought that Houston would take overPost's land if Kossuth got elected .(See below .)Hance may have named his park after him because at least one plaque inside school honors him .(See photo .)Another possible explanation for the name change might be that postmaster Hiram Waddell noticed Arlington Heights subdivision being built just east of downtown Dallas being called "Pruitt" while no such thing happened with Houston area subdivisions such as Clear Fork or Mason Dixon which were given more descriptive names like Prairie View A&M University –still unclear whether those names came after Hance or before him .)Eventually most allHouston suburban development took on generic naming patterns following World War II when many suburbs were rezoned to reflect their industrial base which often led to similar naming schemes within individual areas . After hostilities ended in 1947 many types of homes again started popping up throughout various portionsof TX giving rise to even more confusing terms like Spring Branch off Interstate 35W near Grapevine then Westside off I-10 just past Beaumont

In 1871 local resident Benj Pate donated 1 acre (0.40 km²) to provide a town square and began construction on what would become Corsicana's first courthouse and jail. The town grew rapidly with some 725 residents by 1880 thanks to new arrivals from Europe who had moved west during Reconstruction following America's victory over Mexico in that year’s war. In 1902 Kansas City built its second downtown department store on Main Street between State Capitol Drive and Broadway Avenue just east ofpresent-day First Baptist Church; this caused Corsicana to lose much business until it regained it prominence as one of Kansas City’s main commercial districts later that decade when Interstate 10 was extended through centralMidland County into which Kirbyville had been incorporated. During World War II Japanese American civilians were interned at Fort Worth Army Air Field south of town beginning in 1942; most were released before 1945 but about 100 remained at camp until their release in 1949 when they reentered ranching and farming operations around central Midland Countysuch as White Sands Missile Range – now Piney Woods Ranch outside Ofirka – while others continued living at Camp Manzanar until their release there also in 1949 including many who eventually purchased property adjacent to modern day Airport Boulevard northeastofinstructor Ben Kerridge Elementary School today's home for Majestic Airlines Operations Inc., Incorporated
