The town was renamed for General Antonio López de Santa Anna in 1846 when he became president of Mexico. It remained under Mexican rule until 1898, during which time it was occupied by American forces during the Mexican War. By 1907, Corsicana had grown to over 10,000 residents and had taken on many new commercial and industrial ventures. After World War II ended, the area regained its political autonomy and experienced significant growth in businesses and population. Today, Corsicana is one of the most culturally important towns in Texas and remains an engine of economic development within its boundaries
