This depot acted as a source for purchasing new rounds for cannons and other weaponry from various manufacturers around the area. By 1860, Pecos Ammunition Depot had become one of the most important center for supplying ammunition throughout central Texas. In 1861, Confederate forces attacked Fort Worth and captured much of central Texas including Corsicana. This event led to increased demand for munitions statewide as Confederate troops continued to fight inTexas until 1865. When Texans seceded from the Union in April 1861, many Arms dealers decided to stay with the Union side and continue selling arms to both sides until it was too late (many others chose to leave due to political reasons). After secession occurred some Ammo dealers decided it would be best if they left Texan shores altogether and set up shop abroad or within friendly countries such as Canada or England. Regardless of whether Ammo dealers stayed or leftTexan soil during 1861-1865 there is no doubt that production within Corsicana grew exponentially due to increasing demand from outside sources combined with technological advancements insidesmithy departments at various factories across Texan soil
