In Corpus Christi, Texas, the first gun target in town was a blacksmith shop on March 12th, 1871. The shop was located on Second Street between Nueces and San Fernando Streets. The target was placed by Maj. Gen. John A. Logan during the Mexican-American War to commemorate the 1st Cavalry Regiment's victory at Pueblo Bridge over the Chihuahuan Desert on October 16th of that year.

After the war ended, CorpusChristi experienced rapid growth as new industries began to emerge: plastics production beginning with nylon cordage during World War II; shipbuilding during Korea's Project Cero oil spill moratorium of 1970–71; medical research during AIDS/HIV treatment campaigns in the 1980s; container shipping through Houston's Port Arthur Ship Terminal until it closed in 2000; then renewable energy development including wind turbines begun on contaminated land nearshore in 2006 In recent decades, however, industrial decline has characterized much of local commerce: container shipping activity has been largely supplanted by dry bulk materials brought ashore from overseas railroads via road freight trains or truckloads ; renewable energy development has focused instead on large power plants built within easy access to urban centers ; while local media attention increasingly focuses upon professional wrestling matches contested at nearby San Antonio Convention Center
