A post office called "Cove" was established in 1886, but it never grew large enough to warrant being moved to another location so it continued serving as an address for local residents until 1905 when it changed its name to "Cuervo". In 1907 Cuervo incorporated as a city with its own government which lasted until 1915 when it merged into Lubbock City proper. As more people arrived and more land was developed within miles of Copperas Cove they needed new roads so a road was built north from Cuervo through present day Lubbock and then east along Belt Line Road to reach copper mines near Mount Carmel which supplied metal for coinsmiths throughout North America including those found at Coppers cove!
