Copperas Cove is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 705 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Worth-Arlington-Midland Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first white settlers in Copperas Cove were Nicholas and Anna Maria Flores from New Mexico on July 10, 1848. They named their new community after copper mines near Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 1853, American citizens John Fenton and James Averill founded an oil well at Cottonwood Wells just east of Copperas Cove. In 1865, they built a gristmill and post office there which remain unchanged to this day. In 1870, George White purchased land north of Copperas Cove from Nicholas Flores for $2 per acre (approximately $ ). He started the small cotton plantation known as White's Rancho de las Garzas which still exists today. This large piece of property included more than 20 miles (32 km) of railroad trackage and employed up to 100 people during its heyday. The town was platted on September 12, 1872 by Jno Pemberton with the name "Cottonwood" after his former farm near Athens, Georgia where he had grown cotton since 1851. The original plat showed six blocks long with two blocks wide each side and one block high - about . Today only four blocks remain standing in what was once a vibrant village filled with businesses and residences dating back to days before World War I when Copperas Cove was an unincorporated community located within Tarrant County’s Uptown District boundaries south of downtown Fort Worth

The town gradually lost its economic significance until it reopened as a small ranching community in 1935 when copper prices began to rise nationally due to World War II shortages of metal products arising from the warring nations' economies. In recent years, Copperas Cove has experienced significant gentrification with increasing access to amenities such as restaurants and shopping malls statewide; however, some locals remain attached to traditional values while others have adopted more modern lifestyle trends).
