Copperas Cove is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Copperas Cove is located on the shores of Lake Travis and straddles the border of Hudspeth and Travis counties. The first settlers to what is now Copperas Cove were white men who arrived in 1853 from Georgia. A post office was established in 1855 and named for copper ore that had been discovered in nearby Lampson Mines. The name "Copperas Cove" was given to the cove by its first settler, John Cotton Claypool. In 1912, Copperas Cove became an incorporated municipality with a total population of 2,754 people. In 1951, Copperas Cove became a charter city when it applied for and received charter status from the Texas Legislature as a second-tier city within Austin's limits (pursuant to then-House Bill No. 5). As a charter city, Copperas Cove enjoyed some unique privileges which included being able to pass ordinances more stringent than those granted to municipalities with full municipal government such as Austin or Dallas. In 1965, Copperas Cove made national headlines when it voted against incorporation into Round Rock because they felt that their community would not be able to compete with larger towns within Austin's boundaries. This vote set off a firestorm of protest among locals who felt that incorporation would have resulted in increased taxes and services being outsourced to Round Rock while their community shrunken during what they viewed as corporate consolidation withinAustin's boundaries - something that they maintain has never happened since then . Coupling its low taxes with its close proximity to downtown Austin has helped make Copperas Cove one of TX's most popular destinations for wine lovers and nature enthusiasts alike; both pursuits are widely known around here despite having little connection back to original intent until much later . Today Copperas cove remains an annexe of Austin proper complete with all its governmental functions but without any say over how things are run inside City Hall – this according to Mayor L Ron Brown’s plan dubbed “One Town One Voice” where elected officials from each village will work together on issues facing all villages combined rather than having individual committees operated out of City Hall which can become gridlocked due solely to political partisanship

Copperas Cove is a town in Harris County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston–Sugar Land metropolitan area. The first known inhabitants of Copperas Cove were the Houstons who arrived in 1836. They named their settlement for copper mines near by on the Brazos River. In 1845, the Houston and Texas Railway built a line from Galveston to Copperas Cove and made it one of its stations. The name change came about because shipping distance from Galveston to Copperas Cove was too great for boats to make in that time period. In 1872, William Braidwood established a ranch at Copperas Cove with his wife and two daughters, who named it after him: Braidwood Rancho de las Cabras (Braidwood's Ranch). He ran this ranch until his death in 1928. In 1907, Harry Laughlin founded Laughlin Steel Company at Copperas Cove which became one of America's largest steelmakers before being acquired by Arco Industries in 1965. -The first U.S.-made submarines were created here when USS Perry sunk two Spanish ships off Galveston Bay on September 12th 1943 during World War II As late as 1955 local newspapers still used reports that "the old town [Copperas Cove] had not been touched since Indians burned it down [in 1865]." This story has been debunked as some evidence suggests that most likely this report was fabricated by prior residents to create an Anti-Copperas cove feeling among locals; however no tangible evidence supports this assumption either way Some interesting facts about Copperas Cove include the fact that there have never been any murders or homicides here - even though neighboring towns like Rosenberg had more than their fair share over the years
