After years of discussion with other pioneers residing near Corpus Christi, they voted to name their settlement "Copperas Cove" on December 21st, 1854. In 1870 the first post office was established at Copperas Cove and continued serving until 1903 when it moved to Corpus Christi. In 1915 an oil field was discovered in southeastern Gregg County near present day Copperas Cove. This led to increased production for local businesses and development around the oilfield which included new homes and businesses along the beach Front Street corridor. The community quickly became known as "The Oil Capital of Texas." Today Copperas Cove remains a vibrant community with many residents active in local government, business ventures, arts & culture, etc., while enjoying access to some of Corpus Christi's finest amenities including breathtaking views of Corpus Christi Bay from its nearly .
