Coppell, Texas is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, located on the Republican Riviera of the Lone Star State. The population was 5,811 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first settler in Coppell was James Sutherlin in 1847. He and his family were pioneer farmers who built their homes around a well dug by his father-in-law, John Clementson. James Sutherlin's son played football for Baylor University and also became a successful business man in Coppell. In 1907, Abe Fortson bought 160 acres (65 hectares) of land at what is now Main Street and Avenue K in Coppell from James Sutherlin and erected a small log cabin to serve as the town's first courthouse. Fortson named it "Coppell" after himself and his wife Clara Bean Fortson - both natives of Illinois - who had come to Texas with him to start a new life. The first postmaster was Wm Hildebrandt and mail service started on May 1, 1907. The early days were difficult for Coppell; there were few roads or bridges available so goods had to be transported by wagon or train hauled over country that was swampy and covered with brush. But with hard work by residents, cooperative efforts between schools, churches and businesses soon created an improved environment which has continued into today: one streetlamps are lit at night throughout the community while most streets have sidewalks; no automobiles are allowed on main thoroughfares; all businesses close at 5 p.m.; Novenas are celebrated each weekdays excepting Christmas Day; dogs are not allowed off leash outside any public buildings including churches; people dress plainly but politely without elaborate clothing unless they are attending services in church (which happens more than once per day); food service is provided free every day except Sundays when merchants may charge $1 per meal served

Coppell is a small town in Gregg County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,993 at the 2010 census. The name originates from the Coppell Creek that flows through the community. The first European to settle in what is now Gregg County was James Hogg, who arrived in 1827. He named his land "Hogtown" after his farm Hogback Hill in nearby Midland. A post office called Coppell was established in 1846, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1907, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a decision of the Texas Railroad Commission that allowed a group of oil drillers to build a pipeline from Houston to Dallas via Coppell as part of a land deal with Southern Pacific Railway Company officials. The townspeople got their first glimpse of oil production when an early rig drilled by Texaco off Hogtown Road produced some crude oil on July 5, 1907. Coppell's economy changed dramatically when Texaco ceased operations and other companies followed suit during thequest for petroleum resources during World War I and II. In 1955, Texaco merged with Imperial Oil Company to create Chevron Corporation which soon began developing natural gas reserves around Coppell and other areas of Gregg County into what would later become known as Barnett shalegas field
The town of Coppell, Texas was founded in 1881 by cattle ranchers from the area. The population increased rapidly after the discovery of oil and gas in the nearby Comanche Hills, and in 1907 Coppell incorporated as a city. The city experienced rapid growth during World War II, with a population increase of over 50 percent. The post-war boom slowed dramatically in the early 1960s as new oil discoveries failed to materialize. In recent years, however, Coppell has seen significant growth thanks to its location within the Houston metropolitan area and its status as a bedroom community for Houstonians.
