Donnelly's mercantile business which has been in continuous operation since 1871 - until about 1915 when ownership changed hands several times until it finally passed into private hands again during World War II when it was used as an air raid shelter for military families stationed nearby on Iwo Jima Island during 1945–46]. In 1909, Burt Reynolds filmed his breakthrough movie "The Outlaw Josey Wales" at Grand Prairie Airport just outside of Coppell; this gave rise to many names for that airport such as "Burt Reynolds Airport". The airport served Coppell well until 1993 when runway 17/35 became operational due to encroachment by neighboring Round Rock Municipal Airport with concurrent construction of Interstate 20 east of town near Round Rock proper; both airports now use part or all thereof as their primary runway layout.] It wasn't until 1969 that Falcon Industries began operations at downtown Wichita Falls' Wichita County Fairgrounds adjacent to today's old Armadale Drive]], eventually moving into their current location on White Sands Boulevard across from Wichita Falls High School before being acquired by Dow Corning Corporation [now known as Honeywell] and then merged with Alcoa Aluminum Company products plant northwest of Wichita Falls]. The fairgrounds continued to be used intermittently for various events through the years before closing completely for good around 1990]; but significant evidence remaining suggests that large scale event activities took place there even further back even than that!] Today much activity takes place along IH 35 just south & west side near TXDOT office complex across street

In 1870, the first school opened in Coppell and remains the only public school district in the town today. The Cotton Belt Railroad arrived here in 1865, and soon after began bringing African Americans to work on their farms. Black people were also enslaved here until 1861 when they were emancipated following a U.S. Supreme Court decision that determined slavery did not exist within the United States Constitution. Today, there are more than 100 black businesses operating throughout Coppel
In 1836, a group of Texans led by James Fenton decided to move from the city of Austin to what is now Coppell. The town was founded on the site of present-day Coppell in 1839 by John W. Gunn and his wife, Anna Kerr Gunn. The first store in Coppell was built on the corner of Fourth Street and Market Street in 1839. It was called "the Gadsden Store." In 1840, a post office was established at Coppell, and mail ran between Austin and Coppell until 1861. A courthouse and jail were built in Coppell in 1840-41. The jail closed in 1865 because it no longer held prisoner any more people. Crockettville Elementary School opened in 1941 as the first coeducational public school west of the Mississippi River. In 1951, Moody Air Force Base opened nearby and soon after, many businesses moved into town to take advantage of its new surroundings including Texas Instruments Inc., Coleman Aeronautical Industries Inc., Lockheed Martin Aircraft Corporation, AT&T Bell Laboratories, Texaco Petroleum Company (now ExxonMobil), Shell Oil Company (now ChevronTexaco) and First Interstate Bancorp (now Wells Fargo). In 1957, Texas Instruments Incorporated moved their headquarters from Austin to Plano after purchasing an old oil refinery there for $10 million dollars
