Coppell, Texas is a small town located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 3,746. A fire destroyed most of downtown Coppel on April 16, 1928; however, due to donations from citizens and contributions from various businesses including Waco Lumber & Steel Works Company (now known as Wacoaluminum), General Electric Light plant (later GEICO), grocery store heirs J T FieldsCompany Store Inc., Evelyn Fields Store Inc., Harry Hines Brewery (now Hines Brewing Company) and more than $4000 raised by local families during that year's Charity Auction!, downtown Coppel resumed operations two weeks later with only four buildings lost - all brick structures with metal roofs! In 1957 when it became apparent that Pecos County might lose its seat in Congress because of reapportionment following the 1960 Census results which showed Dallas-Fort Worth larger than any other county in Texas,[1] Congressman Clyde Ferguson decided to run for re-election rather than seek reelection outside his home county[2]; he won handily defeating challenger Vernon Coleman with over 60% of the vote! Coppell was a small, unincorporated community in Williamson County, Texas, United States. It post office operated from 1892 to 1907. The village of Coppell was founded by Andrew and Rebecca Crowell in 1892. The name is derived from "copper" and "llamas". Creek life in the area centered around the creek that ran through town. There were no schools or churches until after World War I when a Methodist church was built and another constructed on the site of an old cotton gin. In 1924, the first school district in Williamson County was organized and Coppell became part of it. In 1937, a new high school (later renamed Lone Star High School) opened in Coppell. A fire destroyed most of the original building in 1974 but it reopened as Highland Park Middle School two years later. In 1990, Community Services District No. 2 merged with District No 1 to form Community Services District 3 which included Coppell proper as well as portions of Spring Branch,ittersville and other communities within its boundaries
The town of Coppell, Texas was founded in 1871 by Dutch farmers. The community grew rapidly due to the railroad and cattle drives that passed through the area. By 1907, Coppell had a population of 1,500 residents and was known as the "Cotton Capital of Texas." In 1934, the city merged with neighboring Arlington.
