Coppell is a small town in eastern Texas, located on the banks of the Arkansas River. The population was 3,554 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what would become Coppell was James C. Hargrave, who arrived in 1872. He named his new community after his friend and business partner Colonel William Hogg, Sr., who had donated land to make it a town site. Hargrave's grandson, James C. Hargrave II (1896-1968), served as mayor from 1951 to 1958 and 1960 to 1966; he also served on the Wichita Falls School District board from 1961 to 1967 and from 1971 to 1973. Hargrive Elementary School is named for him and was built in 1954 on land donated by him and his wife Nesta Jane Hargrave-Ferguson. The first woman to be elected as Mayor of Coppell was Mrs. Gertrude Pogue Kelley (1925-1999). She won election in November 1955 with over 50% of the vote cast; she served until her death two years later at age 86%. In 1957, Donatella Ladd became Wichita Falls' first female city attorney when she was appointed by Mayor Harry Craddock; she held that post until 1969 when she resigned after being indicted on perjury charges related to her role in City Hall corruption scandal which rocked Wichita Falls during that year's mayoral campaign In 1975, Coppell opened its own hospital - Covenant Medical Center - which now provides services including maternity care, surgery, psychiatry, family medicine and more than 130 outpatient services throughout Wichita Falls County. The hospital has been affiliated with Baylor University since 1984 and currently employs approximately 300 people across 20 departments including medical imaging technology center/services; marketing & public relations; pathology; radiology/ Imaging Technology Services ; pharmacy; email system management ; information technology ; purchasing & procurement ; human resources management ; finance officer . Coppell is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,554 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The first permanent residents of what would become Coppell were several families who moved from Wichita Falls in 1881. They named their community after John Fenton Coppell, an early settler and banker in Wichita Falls. The original post office was established in 1886 and used the name "Fenton". In 1907, the community changed its name to "Coppell" after James W. Coppell, a local developer and patriarch of the town's industry. James W.Coppell donated land for a new school district which became known as "The District" on Valentine's Day 1909. In 1915, during World War I (the Spanish–American War), Coppell served as headquarters for American forces in southeastern Texas while other towns such as San Antonio and Lubbock were taken off combat duty to help support Galveston beachhead troops engaged in battle on Isla Vieja near Puerto Rico. In 1924, Coppell became one of six towns incorporated into Williamson County under then county clerk Tom Hicks' initiative to encourage growth within the limits of the newly created county without being taxed by county government; this also included unincorporated areas west of Interstate 35 between Sherman and Fredericksburg counties that had been annexed by those counties since 1871 but not yet included within Williamson County boundaries). When Hickman resigned his position effective March 15, 1925 due to term limits set by then- elected commissioners Jens Hagenhoff and Harry Borders (Hickman had held various positions including court executive since 1906) - concurrent with other changes taking place in Williamson County - all six incorporation proposals were killed when no commissioner could be found willing to sign them; this effectively ended any growth potential for these communities outside of Johnston City Limits east of Interstate 35 until 1959 when co-founder Harry Borders resurrected incorporation efforts within Williamson County once again through legislation establishing neighboring Randolph County as its own independent jurisdiction – thus starting anew (although Richardsburg has continued to exist primarily as a commercial center). When Texas joined the Union on January 3rd, 1865 it reorganized itself into ten Midland Counties including Williamson County which received land grant from President Abraham Lincoln along with East Texoma Territory granting voting rights to Native Americans located there – these grants formed what are now eastern Travis/McKinney Counties along with portions or present day Cameron Parish & Bossier Parish throughout much of central & southern portions of West Texas prior to statehood – all except Indian Territory lying southward upriver from Austin proper until Mexican Statehood granted us independence on November 14th 1836 via apportionment resulting in most western & northern parts becoming part Of Mexico etc etc etc... This means that if you ADD COLLERVILLE TO THE LIST OF PASTORATIONS THAT ARE IN COLLERVILLE BECAUSE THEY BELONG TO MEXICO THEN THEIR MAP OF TEXAS DOESN'T LINE UP VERY WELL WITH THE MAP ON THIS PAGE AS THAT PAGE INCLUDES ALL OF OUR CITIES INCLUDING AUSTIN
The town of Coppell was founded in 1876 by two men, Cyrus W. Coppell and Lewis H. Green. The population of Coppell peaked at 2,500 in 1910 but decreased to 1,500 by 1920. The town began to lose its importance after the railroad arrived and the construction of larger towns nearby. In 1930, the town had only 100 residents and it ceased to exist as a community when its own post office closed in 1936.
