Today there are only 854 people living in Coppell according to the 2010 census count which is an all-time low since its founding as a small town This decline can be partially attributed to several factors such as: (1) decrease in oil production due to state regulation prohibiting hydraulic fracturing and other horizontal drilling methods; (2) lack of new housing construction following high levels of unemployment during the recent recession; (3) decrease in agricultural production due to global competition from cheaper commodity crops; and (4) increase within Webb County for job opportunities outside of Coppell itself

The first European to visit Coppell was José De la Garza in 1829. He named it "Juana de Aransas" after his sister-in-law Juana Victoria de Anza, who had accompanied him on his ill-fated attempt to explore the new world. In 1846, John Wesley Powell passed through Coppell on his way from Albuquerque to Salt Lake City and noted its beauty in a journal entry. The town began growing rapidly around this time as farmers erected Opera House/Newspaper Building (1850), Post Office (1851), Methodist Church (1855), Baptist Church (1860), and School District No. 4 cotton gin (1866). In 1886, the Texas Railroad Company built its line from Fort Worth to Amarillo and Coppell became the terminus for passenger trains. By 1890, there were 7 businesses in town with a population of 1,500 people; by 1900 that number had risen to 21 with a population of 3,000 people. During World War II, Coppell was one of few communities in Tarrant County without military installations; however, many residents served in the military during or after the war as members of various units including the Army Air Forces and Marines Corps Reserve units stationed here during WW II as well as Korean War service members who later relocated here permanently following that conflict. On December 3rd 1951 local high school seniors united together to raise money for scholarships which they would use towards college tuition tuition at Baylor University while also helping support local veterans' organizations such as COVEVETSCOVEYouthVolunteersOfTexas (now Veterans Affairs America) which helped provide housing and meals for servicemen's families while they were deployed overseas during World War II until their return home due to hostilities ending only five years later in Korea; all this accomplished using nothing but donated cash - an unheard of event at that time! On July 20th 1984 Local Junior High School seniors united together again under similar auspices this time raising money for hurricane relief efforts conducted by COVIDETEXASROADS damaged by Hurricane Tracy less than two weeks earlier some sixty miles away just east of Amarillo
