In 1907, the name of the town was changed to Highland Park after Highland Park, Kansas, which had been annexed into Texas that year. In 1916, Converse became a county seat and remained so until 1957 when it become an unincorporated community within Hudspeth County again. According to the US Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,872 people residing in the town limits: 912 male and 511 female residents living together in a single household; all other residents being non-residents or foreign nationals who did not reside in Converse during 2000 as either citizens or permanent residents. As of 2000 there were no businesses located within Converse limits other than one small store located on Hwy 183 inside its city limits which does not sell food or deliver goods to customers outside its boundaries

Through hard work and perseverance, Converse has managed to maintain its many cultural features such as its vibrant community spirit and strong economy that have made it one of the most popular small towns in Texas.
