The Converse Boot company was founded in 1901 by Edward W. Beal and his brother-in-law, Sam Beal. The brothers began making boots for the military in 1894. They continued to make boots until 1907 when they merged with the Schuh company to create the Schuh-Converse company. In 1916, the Beals donated a million dollars to build a school in Converse, Texas. The school was dedicated in 1927 and is now known as The Edward W. Beal School of Business and Economics at Baylor University.

Converse was founded in 1876 by James W. Converse and his brother-in-law John Dickey as a sawmill town on the San Juan River. The first store was built in 1881 and the first school was opened in 1882. In 1907, Converse became an independent city and retained its name until it changed to Converse in 1961. The Town of Converse has a history that goes back to 1876 when James W. Converse and his brother-in-law John Dickey founded the town on the banks of the San Juan River as a sawmill town named after themselves - "Converses" being one of their initial words for themselves (the other two were "brothers".) The brothers started out with just $2 worth of materials to build their own mill which they did successfully for many years until around 1903 when they decided to sell their holdings in the mill to Jens Olsen who continued operated it until 1915 when he passed away leaving it to his son Lars Olsen who ran it until 1933 when Prohibition ended and it reverted back into private hands again before finally coming under government control as a municipally run community under District No.-1 jurisdiction during World War II before coming under District No.-3 jurisdiction following that war; finally becoming an incorporated municipality effective February 17, 1961). As mentioned earlier, James W. Converse established what would later become known as "Converses" as a small sawmill town on January 5th, 1876 on land donated by him along with his brother-in-law John Dickey (John had come from Scotland). This small community grew quickly due to its location downstream from Archer's Mill which functioned as both a commercial center due to its river access and also served as an important transportation hub because Archer's Ferry transported goods upriver towards Wichita Falls while also ferrying people across the river between Wichita Falls and La Grange (both north central Texas towns at that time). Unfortunately, shortly after James' death in 1880 due to natural causes however Lansing Olsen continued operation of Archer's Mill until 1915 when he passed away leaving it all behind unto his son Lars Olsen who took over operation starting out with just $2 per week salary making him one of Houston's earliest entrepreneurs! After few years however Lars went bankrupt so Harden bought out Lars' share for $100 per year plus interest! That left Harden sole owner & operator of Archer's Mill continuing operations until World War II when local government shifted fully onto wartime footing once again reverting back into privately owned status once hostilities came underway!!! In 1907, less than two years after incorporation via act of Congress into Municipal District #1 following annexation by Wichita Falls due largely to oil production activity taking place within that district at that time; "Converses" reverted back into an unincorporated community once again retaining its original name - this time spelled "Converts". However given its proximity (only about 15 miles south east)to Wichita Falls proper where businesses flourished during those early days thanks primarily thereto including several major Harley Davidson dealerships located within easy driving distance;conversions soon began experiencing heavy growth albeit slowly given Erie Oil Company's much greater acreage presence within neighboring Kiowa County resulting not only in increased exploitation but also increased competition from larger oil companies thereby prompting various changes throughout 1960s through 1970s such as annexations/deletions hither & yon resulting ultimately privileging Wichita Falls over Converses while concurrently reducing economic opportunities available therein for residents... In recent decades however there have been efforts made by citizens & officials alike culminating with reopening of old converted grain elevator called Keystone Grain Elevator located within walking distance now serving both restaurants/bars inside & outside while also housing additional retail units providing significant economic stimulus not only here but also proximate Hutchison City limits (& surrounding areas) despite Community Development Block Grant funding limitations currently preventing any further real estate development :(

Converse, Texas is a small town located in the heart of the Panhandle region of Texas. The town was founded by George Converse in 1848, and it has been home to residents since then. The community has seen many changes over the years, including a decline in population during the Great Depression, a rapid growth during World War II, and an increase in population following the construction of Interstate 35. Today, Converse is one of the most vibrant communities in all of Texas. The town was founded by George Converse on November 15th 1848. At that time, it was part of Mexican land grants given to him by Governor Mirabeau Boudinot. The grant included 1,000 acres (400 ha) of land east of present-day Converse Village and 2 miles (3 km) west of what is now Highway 9A. In 1849, George purchased another 1,000 acres (400 ha) from James McGillivray for $2 per acre ($10 per hectare). With this purchase, George became owner-in-chief of alluvialaining property within present day Converse village limits. Over time, Converse slowly began to grow as a result of its location on high ground near several streams and other water sources. By 1860, there were more than 100 people living in Converse; by 1870 there were 300 residents; and by 1880 there were 400 residents. During this period, businesses such as grocery stores and butcher shops opened up in the community which helped contribute to its growth. In 1892-93*, after a heated argument with neighboring Haskell* [*], George decided to sell his share in Converse Village to Haskell for $4 per acre ($20 per hectare). This event led to increased competition for jobs among local residents which contributed to another decrease in population during the Great Depression*. However*, despite these setbacks*, continued development occurred throughout the decade leading up to World War II*. By 1942*, when World War II started*, there had already been enough growth both within and outside ofConversE* so that new subdivisions could not be established without approval from city planners* [*]. As a result*, today’s district boundaries reflect those originally created during World War II*. Today's economy depends heavily upon oil production which began developing seriously here back when fracking first started 7 years ago!
The first settlers in Converse County were brothers, Isaac and Jacob Converse. The county was established on March 21, 1836. It was named for General John C. Fremont, who fought in the Mexican-American War.
