The first post office was opened in 1875 and closed in 1907 because there wasn't enough business to warrant an office on the main street. In 1904, Conroe incorporated as a city and has been growing ever since! In 1912, oil was discovered near Conroe and production started soon afterwards which led to increased development around the town center including several large factories such as those built by Ewing & Laughlin Steel Works (later Arco). Other industries that have thrived in this region include agriculture (farming being one of the most important activities done within Conroe), health care (including clinics operated by Baylor Hospital), technology (the nearby Arco Field Museum provides artifacts from various periods throughout history), transportation (the nearby I-10 interchange makes it easy to get into Dallas or Fort Worth) and retail trade (convenience stores are common). Today, Conroe remains an active community with many cultural attractions such as its annual Amarillo Folk Festival which attracts over 10000 people each year; local art exhibitions at various galleries throughout town; nightlife with venues like The Cowboy Junkies playing live every weeknight at University Park Theater; professional wrestling matches taking place at Mid-Continent Coliseum during major events such as RodeoHouston; basketball games against other small towns during summertime tournaments hosted by high school students from surrounding counties;etc., etc.).

Conroe is a city in Dallas County, Texas, United States. It was founded on November 3, 1887 by George W. Conroe and his wife Myrtie Bledsoe Conroe. The population was 97 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Dallas County. The community was named after George W. Conroe's father-in-law, Colonel John Nolen Conway (1827–1920). In 1899, the first post office in Conroe opened with the name of "Benton". The name change came about because mail from Bentonville had to be delivered via wagon through Elmwood Cemetery to reach the other cities in Dallas County. The first store in town was called "The Smith Store" and it operated until 1914 when it merged with the First National Bank building which still stands today as a commercial building located at Main Street and Archer Avenue in downtown Conroe. On July 1, 1927,conroe became part of Arlington Heights Township when that township was organized adjacent to Fort Worth; however Arlington Heights never really developed as a town due to its location next to Fort Worth Airport and several restrictions placed on it by Arlington Heights Township such as no development east of Main Street or any buildings over 10 feet high or any stores over 100 square feet in size without special zoning approval from drawing boards set up by Arlington Heights Township trustees
