Conroe, TX is a city located in Montgomery County, Texas, United States. The population was 116 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex and is the county seat of Montgomery County. The Conroe Metropolitan Statistical Area has a population of 930,000. The first European settlers to arrive in what is now Conroe were Frenchmen who arrived in 1718 and named it "Aigoual." They established a trading post there before moving on to Fort Bend County (now Harris County) and founding the town of Galveston. In 1836, John Waco racialized Indian children living near Houston as "Cottonwoods" because their families used to gather cotton from the area each day. So when General Sam Houston organized his army to fight Mexico during the Mexican-American War, he ordered Houston's aide-de-camp Major James Kenedy to take control of Galveston and bombaste Indians living near it with artillery so that they would leave for good. This event is known as the Battle of Galveston Island (1836). In 1845, Perry Comanche Chief John Wesley Powell discovered oil reserves at Parker Field in present-day Conroe while mapping land acquired by West Texas Railroad Company across Buffalo Bayou east of downtown Conroe. With this discovery, Rice Ranch began production of petroleum products in eastern Montgomery County which led to heavy industry growth around Conroe over time including: livestock ranching; fertilizer manufacturing; aluminum smelting; textile mills; truck operations; power plants; and transportation facilities such as an interurban railway system connecting Conroe with Dallas/Fort Worth and other parts of East Texas.. The old Texaco station at US 90/287 south of downtown was destroyed by fire on October 5th, 1984 due to faulty wiring inside an uncontrolled gas line explosion caused by lightning striking the building just two weeks earlier while utility workers were unloading generators for use during a power outage unrelated to this accident. One million gallons (4 million liters) spilled into Buffalo Bayou from that plant resulting in environmental disaster which continues today as one sixth or more inch (15 cm) high water levels remain above normal every month making access difficult for emergency responders working upstream against multiple breaches throughout much of Baacula Creek watershed including homes downstream along Buffalo Bayou where water levels have risen 50 feet (15 m) or more since 1975 due to decades worthless subsidence due primarily to agricultural runoff plus wind erosion..

Conroe is a city in Texas, United States. The population was 5,887 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Conroe County. The city is located in the Houston–Sugar Land metropolitan area. The city was founded by Texans on November 30, 1836 as Post Office Box 7 on an tract of land that became part of what is now Conroe County. It served as the county seat from 1837 to 1873 and then again from 1913 to 1935. On December 11, 1907, Post Office Box 8 (now Main Street) in downtown Conroe became its first post office Annex - becoming one with USPS Headquarters which occupied Main Street since it opened on July 1, 1906. With growth and annexations throughout much of Montgomery County over time, only two other post offices remained open - those in Springtown (later Magnolia) and Midland before USPS discontinued mail service within Montgomery County effective January 1st 1978. On October 15th 1912 citizens of Huntsville petitioned for annexation into Conroe and their request was granted on November 9th 1913 when Houston annexed Piney Woods Village located east of I-10 between Uptown Houston and Montrose Center while also annexing Clear Lake City to form Huntsville along I-610 between Springtown and Midland across from Clear Lake Parkground & Asbury Park Golf Course). This left only downtown Conroe with no annexations during this period so Downtown#Conroe continued to be served by USPS until 1978 when all services were discontinued due to budget cuts within Montgomery Counties local government structure following the retirement of Mayor John Hogg who had led USPS through mostofits history prior to his retirement). In place of postal services there has been a variety of commercial entities providing mail delivery including: First American Bank Mail Delivery; Harris Teeter; Sam's Club; Kroger supermarket chain; Veterans Affairs Medical Center - MD/VA HealthCare System; ExxonMobilMobil oil refinery - Marathon Petroleum Company Inc.; Verizon Wireless Cellular Telephone Service LLC
