A group led by Captain Pierre Le Moyne landed at Point Isabelle on November 12th and surveyors named Fort Bowie after General James Bowie who had driven Spanish forces out of Central Texas during the Mexican–American War (1846-48). On December 3rd 1836 using their charts and data from Point Isabelle they naming this new post for General Stephen Fenton US marshal who had destroyed many Mexico settlements along the Rio Grande including San Antonio de Bexar (present day Austin) on February 15th 1835 during his campaign against Mexico City Governor Ramón de Zúñiga y Valdés y Pérez under orders from President Manuel Micheltorena. Then only 20 miles wide it was considered an open country with no river crossings so trade between Texans and Mexicans took place over land routes rather than by boat or overland caravan route which then crossed through Indian territory near Monterrey on the Nueces River leading down into Mexico City where goods could be sold before being transported across international borders back upriver again to Texan ports like Corpus Christi or Galveston where they would be offloaded onto ships bound for New Orleans or Philadelphia while people aboard bought goods ashore before sailing home again on return trips across Lake Texoma which today forms IH10 near Three Rivers

Conroe is a town in Texas, located in the Conroe-Fort Worth, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 17,813 at the 2010 census. It is adjacent to Fort Worth and Arlington County. The first people to live in what is now Conroe were the Caddo tribe. They called it "Kunta" meaning place of plenty. In 1836, Captain John Hogg, surveyor for the New Mexico Territory and acting on behalf of President James K. Polk sent out a party to explore this new land. Among those who accompanied Captain Hogg were George Mifflin and James Fenton1 2 . The group arrived at what would become Conroe on October 26th 1836 while they were still over the San Jacinto River near present day Archer City. When Austin came into power in 1878 he appointed J.D.. Wilkinson as postmaster general which gave Wilkinson control over all mail delivered into or through Texas. This caused some friction between Austin and Wilkinson because both men saw themselves as rightful successors to Houston's role as Postmaster General since Houston had resigned his office on December 1st of that year after less than two years in office due to health reasons1 3 . When it became clear that neither man could keep up with the rapid growth of the state during Reconstruction2 4 , Austin nominatedJohn Wesley Powell instead2 5 . On January 10th 1865, just four months after Johnson’s assassination, white supremacists attacked African Americans working along US 66 near present day Westconroe3 6 which left three dead and six injured4 7 As a result of this attack Governor Edmund E Smith ordered an investigation into what had happened7 8 After finding no evidence either side could be held accountable9 10 Smith approved construction of the Dallas–Fort Worth Railway which connected Dallas with Fort Worth11 12 giving Conroe its first permanent resident family12 13 In 1887 Drury established a school here14 15 In 1907 when oil was discovered here oil companies began drilling for petroleum around here16 17 but production never really started until 1915 when refinement plants became available18 19 After World War I local farmers decided to start growing corn instead of using gasoline engines used for agriculture before19 20 And so it went until 1955 when oil discoveries started again21 22 Which led to more development22 23and today Conroe has one of Asia's largest petrochemical industry complexes24 25 With employment reaching more than 100,000 people26 27
