The Colleyville Police Department has a history dating back to 1892. The department was originally organized as a volunteer force, and its first officer was appointed in October of that year. The Colleyville Police Department was formally organized on March 15, 1893 with the appointment of one officer per precinct. In 1912, the Colleyville School District was formed and the first Superintendent of Schools was Mrs. Anna Burtis. The present-day town of Colleyville was founded in 1907 by George W. Whipple as a result of land purchase from James Giddings and others in that year. In 1916, the first church was built in town, and in 1945, the first school opened in town under the name of Stonington Elementary School. In 1961, a new high school (now called Star High School)was built to replace an old one on Main Street in town. The original building had served as a Methodist Church for many years before it became too impractical to use as a high school after it experienced several fire issues over its years of use. A new building with more modern features was eventually erected on Main Street between Star High School and Creekview Elementary School in 2013-2014; this building is now known as "Bellefontaine" HS or simply "Belle".
