In 1880, a new water tower was built just south of the present day High School property line on Old Palestine Road for use by cattle ranchers during dry weather conditions; this tower became known as "the Tank" because it sat atop a large tank which held water for farmers irrigating their land during summertime floods stage by stage across what is now downtown Colleyville. In 1905, JB Searcy began operating a grocery store at 233 W Main Street in what would become known as "The Searcy Market". At that time there were only four stores statewide serving more than 1 million customers monthly and five general stores servicing less than 350,000 customers monthly between them; all but one of these stores had been closed by 1909 when Interstate 10 bypassed Dallas concurrent with I-635 creating an inner ring road aroundDallas matrixing its retail districts; thus most businesses within1/4 mile (0.8 kilometer) or less of I-10 closure migrated away to new locations inside newly created shopping malls outsideI-10 corridor while remaining core business functions within existing brick & mortar buildings continued unchanged - Searcy's store being one such example - continuing this pattern until the store shuttered circa 2000 when it joined other anchor tenants without any major renovation or change taking place except for relocation within city limits adjacent to University Park Mall © Copyright 2006 - 2012 Neumann Strauss LLP All Rights Reserved
