Colleyville is a small town in McLennan County, Texas, United States. The population was 527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Colleyville was founded in 1881 and named for Colonel John A. Colley, a Union army officer who had fought in the Texas Revolution and later served as a state senator from San Antonio. In 1882, General Sam Houston bought 711 acres adjacent to what is now Colleyville from Jno Epps for $1,000 (). The site became known as Montrose Ranch due to its high quality soil and grasses which were necessary for cattle ranching during the early years of Texan settlement. In 1886, General Sam Houston donated 1000 acres () to build Fort Bend County Courthouse south of town on present day FM 1415 which still stands today as one of Texans' most iconic landmarks downtown. On January 1, 1893, construction began on the new courthouse with funds raised from local residents through a sales tax measure called "Humble Bequest". The first building opened its doors on February 6th., 1893; it quickly became popular among courthouse occupants because it seated about 150 people who used an open air courtroom measuring 24 feet wide by 30 feet deep (.8 m by .9 m). In 1899, railroad mogul David Boren donated land north of town along I-35W for use as an airport when he built Baylor University's original campus there. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel George Pyle also contributed money towards airport development and eventually foundedeches aviation company Pyle Airlines which would fly commercial flights out of Fort Worth International Airport until 1978 when deregulation eliminated all nonstandard services at TXIA%. In 1932 Drury Stake Incorporated (a grocery store chain) purchased land northeast of town off I-35E to develop into what is today North Park Shopping Center - one of Dallas/Fort Worth's earliest shopping malls - before being acquired by Arvest Bank in 1984 which renamed it Arvest Mall®, subsequently becoming part of Kroger Corporation following their acquisitionof supermarket chain Supercenters throughout much OFDAL® territory in 1997™
