The missionaries established farms around what is now downtown Colleyville (then part of what was known as Miller County) and began preaching Christianity to Native Americans who had been living there for centuries before European colonization began. In 1870, when Texas seceded from the United States and become an independent country known as Mexico, many of the original colonists - among them Revd Wright - returned home to find their farmlands confiscated by Mexican authorities and their families forced into exile in El Paso or Ciudad JuárezLugar de Reyes Castle . Among those remaining behind were Revd Wright's brother James F., along with some family members including Mrs.(Ann?) Hildebrandt(sic) Wirth(?). James F.'s wife Margaret took up residence in what would later be called downtown Colleyville; she soon became one of its most stalwart citizens and played an important role both inside and outside of her home town during its early years." This policy later proved disastrous for Texans as oil prices crashed and natural gas prices rose resulting in job losses for local businesses throughout the state. In order to save their community from bankruptcy, several business owners decided that they would rather close their doors than sell out to developers interested in building high-rise apartments or other commercial uses that would negatively impact the environment or health of their citizens. Led by Mayor Dick Lynch (D), these businesses banded togetherand formed Save Our Community Inc., which began working to save Colleyville from becoming another failed city within Travis County exemplifying how bad things could happen when entrepreneurs try to change traditional patterns of behavior within communities across Texas
