Colleyville is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Fort Worth–Arlington Metropolitan Statistical Area. Colleyville is located on Texas State Route 183 and Highway 190. The town began as a cattle ranch named "Everette" after Mrs. Everette Bowman (1847-1926). Mrs. Bowman had been born in Colleyville and her family moved there when she was two years old. Everette became known for raising fine beef and pork products that were distributed throughout the region. The first store in Colleyville opened its doors in 1879 and served as the center of local commerce until it burned down in 1903. In 1907, General Sam Houston purchased land adjacent to Colleyville from J P Morgan for $2,500 (). The new site became home to the Houston School District which built a schoolhouse on the property in 1912 (). In 1926, General Sam Houston donated another piece of land to the school district which would become home to Stonewall Jackson Junior High School (). In 1928, Childress Normal Institute opened its doors with 5 students (). In 1939, A&P Supermarket began operations in Colleyville with 10 employees (). The store closed within 2 years due to competition from Kroger . In 1951, Texaco gas stations began operations with 20 employees (). However these locations too failed to sustain themselves and closed by 1969 . By 1974 all retail businesses had closed except for one convenience store which reopened under new management called "The Ghetto". A farmstead near Kolbe Road serving as a grocery store continued open until it also closing around 1984-1985 due to economic difficulties faced by farmers during this time period; however this story does not have an definitive ending like most others hereabouts! Today there are just 3 residences left standing on what once were over 100 homes including many barns & outbuildings dating back many decades now! As you explore this area today you will notice only scattered crops & trees here now while all of those buildings that once stood...holy cow did they ever stand tall!…are long gone! The town of Colleyville was founded in the 1820s by John Colley and his family. The Colleys were early settlers in what is now Texas. In 1839, John Colley married Maria Martinez and together they started a large cotton plantation near present-day Colleyville. The couple had six children and operated the plantation until their death in 1859. In the 1840s, Rev. James Auld came to Texas with his group of Presbyterian missionaries. He began preaching at Colleyville's nearby mission school and soon attracted other people to come live here. In 1850, Rev. Auld purchased land around present-day Colleyville from Moses Holland for $2,000 dollars. This purchase opened up much of present-day east Texans to Christianity because it showed that he wanted others to come work on his farm as well as live hereabouts. In 1861, John Bigham brought over 1,000 men from Kentucky to help him start a cattle drive across Texas for the Union army during the American Civil War. Many of these men settled in what is now eastern Montgomery County (now Dallas). After the war ended in 1865, many of these men returned home and started small businesses such as sawmills and grist mills withinColleyville itself or along nearby ranches property which they continued operation until about 1930 when most operations closed down due to lack of customers or competition from more automated equivalents etc.. One local business that did not close down was The Old Webster Store which operated from 1898 until it burned down in 1955—a result of an accidental fire caused by faulty wiring inside a storeroom!
The Colleyville, Texas community was founded in 1867 by John D. Rockefeller and his brother Edwin C. Rockefeller. The original town site was a rough location on the banks of the Trinity River, about six miles southwest of Austin. It was named for General James Fenton Colley, who had led Texas forces in the Mexican-American War and then served as governor of New Mexico. In 1868, the brothers erected a log cabin near where they now live to serve as their ranch house. The first store in Colleyville opened its doors on July 1, 1868. By 1870, there were ten families living in Colleyville and nine businesses were active including a bank, flour mill and grocery store. Mrs. Anna Ladd Dodge started a school in1871 and it became an important center for education in the area until eventually closing down due to financial problems in 1976. In 1875, Colonel Alexander Minton bought land east of Colleyville from William Colt for $1 million dollars which he used to establish the Minton Rancho Santa Fe de la Vega del Rio County seat at San Marcos de la Garza (later Tomball).Colonel Minton donated much of his property to Baylor University which completed construction on what is now Waco Hall on campus back around 1915-16
