He was honored with numerous awards including being namedColleyville's first posthumous mayor in 1951.Throughout his life, John really enjoyed spending time down at Haskellport where he would fisherman or take walks on the beach when he wasn't busy running his store or helping contribute to civic events happening around town (e notably playing baseball against neighboring towns). His wife Martha continued to live active roles within her community well into her own retirement years until she passed away at age 97 on October 26th, 2000 just weeks after her husband's death at 88 years old due to natural causes following many long hours spent doing volunteer work throughout her lifetime as well as many hard fought battles won by both womenfolk during Texas' past 100 year history!
