The University of Texas at Austin’s (UTA) history in College Station, Texas began with the opening of the UT Austin campus on September 17, 1887. The original buildings that now make up the university were constructed on land purchased by then-President John H. Tyler. The university first graduated students in 1889 and was established as a coeducational institution. The following year, UT Austin hosted its first football game against Lamar University and played its first intercollegiate baseball game against Sam Houston State University. By 1907, UT Austin had completed construction of its present day facilities including a library, academic departments, student union and several dormitories. In 1915, the university opened its doors to women who had been excluded from previous male-only institutions. In 1924, UT Austin became one of the first universities in America to offer a graduate program in law.
College Station, TX is a city in the U.S. state of Texas and the county seat of Coleman County. The population was 1,451 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Gulf Coast of Texas and lies within the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. As a result of its location, College Station has been called "The University City". In terms of GDP per capita, it ranks as fifth in Texas behind Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio. The city was founded in 1876 by General John Tuggle as College Station Junction on an old stagecoach stop near present day Interstate 35W and Commerce Street. A post office was established in 1877 and became a town in 1886 when it annexed the adjacent unincorporated communities of Bethany and Athens. The town name changed to College Station in 1907 when Baylor University moved from Waco to College Station under then-President Jameson McLane. AsTexas grew rapidly during World War II with huge populations growth coming from military bases dotting the state (Texarkana being one), new downtown developments were started such as Memorial Coliseum which became home to both Baylor Bears football games as well as other large events throughout war years (the first ever NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship game took place here on March 30th 1946). After WW2 ended things slowed down but didn’t quite die out until after 2000 when oil production peaked & social media made many people aware that Live Oak Farms could provide them with all they need for groceries without having to go out into town which caused prices for groceries to sky rocket across campus causing some students (& non students)to leave campus early each morning just so they could get their hands on food before classes began! Since then Downtown Development Corporation has worked hard TODD has revitalized lots of areas around Market Square including building pedestrian bridges over Loop 610North providing easy access from North Campus Oval eastward; installation/removal/replacement of sidewalks & bike lanes; adding much needed light rail inside & outside Metro stations; increasing parking Lots available along Southtown Boulevard; and most recently River Walk Extension which will give visitors an excellent view upriver from Museum District towards downtown while still keeping trees close enough for pedestrians to walk underneath

Although it has been called "The Heart of conservative Texas", College Station has also seen some controversy over its history and current role within Anglophile Texan culture. The University of Texas at Austin (UTA) was founded in 1876 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas. In 1912, UTA became a public university with the passage of the Public Utility Act. In 1916, UTA adopted a new campus plan that moved its main campus from downtown to a new location on Lake Travis. The following year, UTA became one of 12 universities in the United States to become an affiliate member of the American Association for State Universities and Colleges. On July 1, 1948, UTA joined the Baylor University System as Baylor–UTA University. In 1964, UTA became coeducational and began offering undergraduate degrees in business and engineering.
