In 1925, Baylor University opened its new campus north of downtown on what is now Loop 1604 freeway; this new campus would eventually become one of America's leading research universities. In 1938, TSU merged with the Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) to form the National Research Council (NRC). This merger created a major scientific center at Baylor that continues to play an important role in American agriculture to this day. On November 5, 1957 – two days after Senator John F Kennedy's assassination – TSU voted to annex neighboring Fort Worth into Dallas County effective December 1st - giving College Station annexation rights which it subsequently took full advantage of; due to these facts alone, molecular biologists still commonly refer to themselves as "Dobies" even though their school actually originated inFort Worth! In 1959–60 the old Main Street Bridge over Cypress Creek collapsed leaving four lanes open for vehicular traffic only; this closed off most commerce within town for nearly five years resulting in some very tough times for locals- but also saw some growth among young families looking for convenient shopping opportunities around Interstate 10 just outside town limits! In 1969–70 TCU moved from Waco to nearby Arlington Heights following a proposal by then-President Lyndon B Johnson.; Arlington Heights would serve as TCU's primary academic center until Waco could be rebuilt following World War II destruction which led to increases in enrollment at TCU thanks largely to military jeeps parked on campus during those days! On November 15th 1970 Houston Astros pitcher Roger Clemens made history when he set down three batters over seven innings while facing Baylor Bears catcher Nolan Ryan with no hits allowed while completing just ninety-one percent of his pitches; Clemens' performance helped lead Houston past Baylor 7-6 en route backto world series against Boston Red Sox!!! For all intents and purposes CollegeStation had always been known as "Houston Base Town" !!! But on January 3rd 1971 civic boosters installed a big steel sign reading "UT Austin" above City Hall Dome & UT Austin students quickly started moving into vacated buildings along Main Street! In less than two years UTAustin had outgrown Arlington Heights so construction began on what would eventually become Marshall Field Market Place Campus across I-10 from Downtown CollegeStation !!! Today Marshall Field Market Place Campus houses many OF Texan colleges & universities including Rice University (!), Methodist UT Chapel (&), Southern Methodist UNiversity (&),& Univision TX Television Center (&).
