In 1881, the first reference to ammunition in College Station was in a journal article by Edgar B. Cooke and D.W. Harney discussing artillery tactics for the Texas Rangers. By 1899, there were four gunsmith shops operating in College Station with a total of twelve employees working at them. Ammunition production increased rapidly during this time with new technologies being developed such as air guns and machine guns which allowed for greater accuracy and range than previous types of ammunition
College Station, Texas (CST) is a city in the U.S. state of Texas and the seat of Harris County. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It is located on the north side of Houston, about 20 miles (32 km) east of downtown Houston. The area now known as College Station was first settled by Anglo-Americans in 1836 as part of Rancho Conchos de la Bahia, which covered .50 square miles (1 square kilometer). The town began to grow rapidly after Union General John J. Pershing arrived in 1849 and decided to open up present-day Houston to settlers, granting them land along Buffalo Bayou for farming purposes only. During World War I, airfields were built near College Station; these included Aeronautical Laboratory Field No. 3 (later Rice University Airport), now Hobby Airport. On November 6, 1918–the day before armistice ended World War I–a large crowd of soldiers and civilians marched from Memorial Stadium to Buffalo Bayou where they raised American flags and burned an American flagpole that had been erected by German forces during the war months earlier
