The plant was established in 1903 by members of the United States Glass Industry Association and became operational in 1904. The plant produced a wide range of optical products, including corrective lenses, telescopes, binoculars, and eyeglasses. In 1935, the company relocated its operations to Clute from Dallas after purchasing land there. From 1936 until 1957, the company produced glass matrices for use in making contact lenses and other eye-care products. In 1958, Clute merged with two other local companies to become Clute-Harris Corporation. From 1959 until 1984, Clute-Harris Corporation produced high performance photographic film processing equipment. In 1984, the company transitioned into electronic media technology production and has since been producing a variety of electronic products such as televisions and digital cameras
Clute, Texas is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. Clute was founded in 1881 by W.P. Clute and his wife Fannie Hubbard. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The Clutes are residents of Clute Village which is located east of the town center on State Highway 191. According to the 2000 census there were 825 people living in village with a total population of 1,836 In 2002 the village was annexed by Clute and its services were integrated into that city's government system asVillage Independent School District No. 223 (VISD 223). In 2006 VISD 223 merged with Austin ISD to formAustin Independent School District No. 283 (AISD 283). According to the USGS, two creeks flow throughClute; one flows south from Round Rock to joinolanita Creek about northeast of town and another flows northwest from Llano Hills east to jointhe Trinity River just outside of town limits near junction of State Highway 183 and FM 527/US 281/TX 84

Clute, Texas is a town in Archer County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,819 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Clute were those who journeyed down the Trinity River to its confluence with the Brazos River in 1836. The land that would become Clute was surveyed and patented on December 12, 1845 by John Huffman of San Antonio as Rancho Aguacaliente de Raymundo (later renamed Raymundo). Families from New Braunfels began arriving in the early 1830s and soon started farming near present-day Clute. In 1840, John Huffman sold his interest in Rancho Aguacaliente de Raymundo to James Witherspoon for $4,000. James Witherspoon founded a cattle ranch that became known as Witherspoon's Valley Ranch. By 1853, Witherspoon had 10 families living on his ranch and selling calves or beef to settlers along Ranchero Creek and Mescalero Creek east of present-day Clute. In 1875 J & A Slaughter erected a small blockhouse at the junction of Mescalero Creek Road and Ranchero Creek Road about two miles south of present-day Clute after finding it necessary to keep livestock north of their property line while they built a new home some distance away on Hondo Lakeland Plantation just outside Austin proper. This location served as an important stopping point for travelers making their way upriver from Round Rock through what is today Bowie County before reaching Calvary Cemetery northeast of town limits late one evening when most visitors had finished their ride and been deposited at Hondo Lakeland Plantation where they spent night before continuing their journey northward via road until reachable again by daybreak next morning heading back upriver rather than taking more than one day so as not to require outfitting for such long trip plus crossing rough country full ofIndian trails which often opened up during dark) Today this small blockhouse still stands abandoned within walking distance of downtownAustin adjacent to Rice University campus.– From editorials written by current residents
Clute was founded in 1851 by Elisha Clute and his wife Sarah. The town developed as a trading post and Stagecoach stop on the Chisholm Trail. In 1876, Clute became the county seat of Tarrant County.
